Where does our magnesium come from?
Our magnesium comes from an old sea that is long gone. The Zechstein Sea covered large parts of Europe about 250 million years ago. When that sea dried up, a pure, concentrated salt layer remained deep underground, containing naturally dissolved magnesium chloride. That layer is safely stored at a depth of more than 1600 meters, in the north of the Netherlands.
Today we extract that magnesium using a particularly gentle method: we pump a natural brine mixture from the Zechstein layer. This brine, rich in magnesium chloride, has been there for millions of years, ready for use. No mining is involved, no water is injected artificially. The liquid is purified above ground, without chemical processing or additives.
In this way, the exceptional purity of this ancient source is completely preserved.
Zechstein magnesium is naturally free from contaminants such as heavy
metals or microplastics. Unlike magnesium from the Dead Sea or industrial sources, Zechstein is so pure that it is known worldwide as the gold standard. And that is exactly why this unique source is in every bottle of Gentlee.
